Experience

Founder & Lead Research Engineer

HarmoniQ

2023 – Present

Founded software company for music education technology. Primary product is HarmoniQ, an iOS app for developing perfect pitch.

  • Solo-built and shipped HarmoniQ to the App Store. Thousands of active users with organically growing recurring revenue.
  • Used AI to operate as a full product organization, replacing functions that would typically require dedicated teams: competitive intelligence, analytics, localization across 22 languages, audio engineering including custom-trained models for high-fidelity sound generation, design, ASO, and content production.
  • Designed gamification systems driving daily engagement of 30 to 60 minutes, 5+ days per week across the user base, with dedicated users training multiple hours daily.
  • Architected a longitudinal diagnostic engine for auditory neuroplasticity, managing a global dataset on pitch acquisition that exceeds published laboratory-based longitudinal studies by 1000x in both participant volume and total trial density.
  • Developed high-fidelity psychoacoustic training models and custom-trained audio engines designed to teach and measure pitch-generalization across 15 timbres and 7 octaves.
  • Consulting with Dr. Stephen Van Hedger (Huron University) to leverage the HarmoniQ platform as a primary diagnostic and training instrument for large-scale longitudinal research.
  • Engineered a privacy-forward, no-backend data architecture allowing for serialized research exports (CSV/PDF) while maintaining zero-knowledge user privacy.

Chief Technology Officer

Treasure Financial

2021 – 2023 · 2 years

Led technology strategy and execution for a fintech startup enabling companies to earn yield on corporate treasury through T-Bill investments and FDIC-insured accounts.

  • Launched a neo-bank offering competitive yield on corporate cash tied to rising interest rates, from concept to market in 3 months.
  • Scaled engineering team 4x in under a year, breaking a persistent hiring deadlock.
  • Reduced engineering interruptions from 75% to under 8% of capacity by implementing internal tooling strategy, saving over $1M in engineering time within the first year.

Chief Software Architect

WePay

2013 – 2021 · 8 years

Led engineering practices and architecture at scale for a payments company acquired by JPMorgan Chase for $400M.

  • Defined the dual-track career architecture for engineering: IC levels from apprentice to distinguished engineer, management levels from manager to SVP/C-level. Mentored and sponsored promotions into staff, principal, and director roles.
  • Owned the technical practices that evolved a monolith into a containerized microservice CD pipeline handling 20,000x annual transaction volume.
  • Built hiring and training systems that sustained 2x year-over-year growth for 4 consecutive years and 30x total org growth in 6 years.
  • Designed the financial reconciliation system required to close the acquisition by a regulated bank, built to handle 100x transaction volume.
  • Led post-acquisition integration with JPMorgan Chase, redesigning career development, compensation, and recruiting practices for tens of thousands of engineers.

Patents

Hive-based Peer-to-Peer Network

US Patent 8,103,870 · Issued January 24, 2012

A collaborative data transferring process that combines segments from all known servers and peer-to-peer (P2P) sources simultaneously, regardless of their native protocols. The process uses variable data block sizes that can be dynamically selected according to sizes provided by sources and generates hash values or validation codes on the fly. Machine language implementations and low syntax overhead allow file exchanges over a homogeneous network with high throughput and low bandwidth consumption.

Volunteer

Research Engineer, Bioinformatics Automation

UCSF Brain Tumor Research Center

2005

  • Automated genomic data processing for nucleotide sequence analysis and exon anomaly detection.
  • Developed a custom bioinformatics workflow that achieved a 100x productivity gain and provided a stable research infrastructure.
